Java-Log perks up the U.S.
Firelog made from recycled coffee grounds is
clean burning, safe and better for the environment
(Ottawa, Canada — September, 2004) —
Java Products Corporation has announced that Java-Log, the innovative new
firelog made from recycled spent coffee grounds, will be available
across the United States this season. A worldwide industry first,
Java-Log is an excellent alternative for conscientious consumers who
want to enjoy their fireplace and make environmentally friendly choices
at the same time.
After conducting an extensive initial Northeast regional
test market, the product will now be carried by the retail grocery
supermarket channel across North America during this year’s fall and
winter months.
"Since its inception, we’ve been thrilled with the
reaction and demand from consumers, which has allowed us to make
Java-Log available across North America," said Marcel Sbrollini,
President and CEO of Java Products Corporation "We’re happy to provide a
product that delivers on its promise to create a beautiful flame, to be
clean burning, safe to use, and better for the environment."
Java-Log is the only product of its kind composed of 100
per cent natural ingredients (wood, coffee and vegetable byproducts).
It is seven times cleaner burning, emits 96 per cent less residue, 85
per cent less carbon monoxide, and 86% less creosote deposits and than
regular wood, while releasing no chemical scent. Java-Log also produces
25 per cent more energy and over three times the flame capacity
compared to wood (per unit of wood).
"After extensive testing, we are extremely confident
that Java-Log is very safe to use as directed, burns well, and has
substantially lower air emissions compared to wood," said Dr. Jim
Houck, President, OMNI Test Services Inc.
Each year the bulk of spent coffee grounds are sent
directly to landfills, and Java-Log diverts this waste by re-using it
as solid fuel product. Java-Log can also help reduce the emission of
the harmful greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2), which is released into
the atmosphere when spent coffee grounds rot in landfills. In fact, if
all wood-based firelog products were replaced with Java-Logs, the
amount of annual CO2 emissions in North America would potentially be
reduced by 7.7 million kilograms.
After being awarded one of Time Magazine’s
"Coolest inventions of 2003", Java-Log is now the first and only
firelog sold in premier health food chains such as Whole Foods and Wild
Oats. It is also available across the retail grocery supermarket
channel, and at mass merchandisers like Target. The suggested retail
price is between $3.49 and $3.99 per log. Java-Log can also be
purchased online at www.java-log.com.
